Creative Communication
I believe not everyone can be reached with words on a page. I pride myself on finding creative solutions to illustrate important messages. In my Political Communications class, I created a social media simulation called Spread. The goal was to teach young users how algorithms shape what they see online and how affective publics, echo chambers, and mis and disinformation form and spread. I have always felt that simply hearing “Don’t believe everything you see online” is not enough to change how people use social media. By designing an experience that lets users feel how quickly information can distort and circulate, I wanted to create a more memorable and meaningful way for kids to understand the risks they face online.
Empathy and Understanding
I’ve been taught many times to take emotion out of my writing, but I don’t think that’s the full answer. You can write impartially and intelligently while still letting emotion fuel the work, because if you want your writing to reach people, it has to make them feel something.
Curiosity
I have a genuine passion for many different subjects, and I see that as one of my greatest strengths. My curiosity helps me connect disciplines like journalism, coding, design, and environmental justice to tell fuller, more holistic stories.
